What does treatment involve?

Typical osteopathic treatment begins with a detailed case history, where we gather information about your symptoms, their progression, and your medical background. This is followed by a thorough physical examination before proceeding to treatment, if appropriate. At OsteoFirst, we tailor our techniques to each individual, ensuring your treatment suits your unique needs. These techniques may include soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisation, muscle energy techniques, and joint manipulation. Our osteopath is also trained in medical acupuncture and can incorporate this into your treatment with your consent, where suitable

What does acupuncture treatment involve? Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin, which are briefly left in place. In some cases, manual or low-voltage electrical stimulation may be applied to enhance the process. The number of needles used is tailored to each individual's needs.
At OsteoFirst, we offer western medical acupuncture, a modern adaptation of traditional Chinese acupuncture. This approach is rooted in current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and follows evidence-based medical principles.
Who is osteopathy suitable for? Osteopathy is suitable for anyone. By taking a detailed case history, we ensure treatments are tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs.
What should I wear? Depending on your condition, you may be asked to undress to your underwear in your appointment to properly assess the area being treated. If you feel uncomfortable with this, please let your osteopath know and accommodations can be made.
The best clothes to come to your appointment in are ones which are loose fitting or proved easy access to the area on injury. You can always bring a pair of sorts of vest to change into at your appointment if you prefer.
Can I bring a relative or friend? Yes, you’re welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment for support and to help you feel at ease.
Do I need a doctor’s referral? No, you don’t need a referral to visit an osteopath. You can simply book an appointment directly with us.
Is there parking? Yes we have 3 parking spaces situated straight in front of the clinic including one disables space.
